A song about sticking to it and getting it done from a musician's point of view.
I wanted to write a harder rock style song about determination. Even though it should be sung an octave higher (which is out of my range), the music dictated the key.
Determination
words and music by Patrick Thompson
(verse 1)
How many times have I tried to write this song for you
how many times I've tried and lost the groove
mental blocks and timecard clocks, they slow me down
but I kept the dream alive and broke on through
(chorus 1)
When I feel an inspiration breakdown
the easy thing to do would be to yield
but giving up is just not in my repertoire
I bite the bullet - forge ahead
make my way and anticipate success
(verse 2)
Traveling down the hard road is nothing new to me
for everything I have, I've had to fight
I find my revelations in the strangest ways
and I live my life my way - I have the right
(chorus 2)
When I feel an inspiration breakdown
the easy thing to do would be to yield
but giving up is just not in my repertoire
I bite the bullet - forge ahead
make my way and anticipate success
don't give - don't give - don't give up
(bridge - chorus lead)
(verse 3)
The ladder to the top is filled with broken rungs
sometimes I must retreat to gain the view
but in the end I have to be what I can be
It's the only way to give my best to you.
When I feel an inspiration breakdown
the easy thing to do would be to yield
but giving up is just not in my repertoire
I bite the bullet - forge ahead
make my way and anticipate success
bite the bullet - forge ahead
make my way and anticipate success
(repeat & fade)
