A miner's son, who's father was killed in the mines, contemplates whether to continue the cycle. Check out the demo sample or purchase the mastered version from the CD A Street Of My Own
Visiting old mine sites I started thinking about what life must be like for generations of families with little choice but to go down into the mines for the pay and lack of alternatives.
I also thought about the wifes and mothers unable to convince their husbands and sons to do something that comes so natural to men of miners.
A Miners Sons Lament Capo 2nd fret, D Harp
There's a darkness 'neath, the beauty of the coast
To give up on one, you must give up on the other
To leave the collieries, you leave what you love most
But your heart remains, anchored to the rocks and the water
I made my mind, to leave the dust behind me
I gave up, when they gave up on brother
Turned my back, on my beloved rocks and water
A fair price to pay to never have to witness another
Even lines the walls, where my daddy lays
I thinks about years, he would wear the blackness
And how he promised, hed pack us up and move away
Since the snow fell grey, stained my momma's wedding dress
Chorus
Neath the beauty of the rocky shores, lies a dusty mine
You may choose to leave, but you leave your heart behind
But I swear Ill see my son, seven times a father
So he can live to tell stories, bout the beauty above of the rocks and waters
Never as loud, as the damaged done
But now the wives have gathered, to hear foreman say
Two more hours, before we reach the other one
But I dont hold out hope, if first we see the light of day
Can't take another blast, mama won't you let me go
I dont blame you, but I can't live this way
If I leave now, there's still a chance dont cha you know
Do what papa said, and bring my babies back someday
