Story behind the song
In parts of Europe, human bones were put into a charnel house after about 10 years, due to the overcrowding in cemeteries in bygone days. I liked the imagery...it's very much a metaphorical song. Hopefully a bit spooky as well...and I was trying to steal lead guitar riffs from Tom Verlaine and failed miserably :).
Lyrics
Charnel House July 2008 10 long years 'til you can move my bones The flesh is weak but 10 years go slow You had something to prove but what I don't know I don't know where the memories go There's no room for me here anyway So dig up all the regret and decay Move my bones to the charnel house Then you can take your heart of stone And don't come 'round no more And leave this soul alone I don't want you to haunt me anymore Don't expect you to want me anymore Leave this place and don't taunt me anymore I don't want you to haunt me anymore So just go and leave me in the charnel house The darkness comes it's dark all the time The flesh is still weak but that ain't no crime I got no where to go there ain't nothing to see Some solace for you there ain't nothing for me JMB July 2008
