A little bit truth, a whole lot of fantasy, kind of like life.
FROZEN HEART
©Ricki E. Bellos
Blowing snow and frigid cold
Standing in the back alone
Wishing all the while I wasn’t here
No one knows just how I feel
Ice breaks like glass under car wheels
As mourners come to show they care
Frozen heart or frozen ground
Doesn’t make a single sound
Then the hole cut six feet deep
Reveals a wound that will not heal
He wouldn’t want a confession
Of my hidden love and obsession
His widow is my dearest friend
We’re both numb with disbelief
But I don’t have the right to speak
She has his love in the end
Frozen heart or frozen ground
Doesn’t make a single sound
Then it breaks and piece by piece
Falls apart in sweet relief
I’ll hold her hand throughout this day
Then I’ll need to stay away
How can my heart be so cold
It’s him not her I want to hold
Frozen heart, frozen ground
Bitter wind that surrounds
What is lost but never told
Stays behind lips sealed with cold
Frozen heart
