Story behind the song
I was re-reading Edward Lear's 'The Owl & The Pussycat' and was wondering what happened later... Bob Cockburn: Vocals, acoustic guitar Rorie Duncan: Acoustic guitar Rorie and I were recorded one sunny day in the country, as you would have heard us if you'd been there, with nowt added and nowt taken out.
Lyrics
Way back then I didn't know a thing Didn't even carry a ring All I had was some words and a simple tune; I still sail with honey and take plenty of money and I still dance by the light of the moon, by the light of the moon. We were happy for a year or two Ever after was a year or two She said our being together didn't make sense; From time to time in the distance I see her pass with her kittens And I miss the days when life and love didn't need to make such sense. You are so beautiful You are so beautiful You are, you are, so beautiful You are, you are, so beautiful. You think I'm wise and can see it all I'm just glad that I know the score As we walk the shoreline, hand in hand, Stones that skim until they fail Fragile laves we try to sail Another tide is washing out our steps and plans from the sand. You are so beautiful... I still look up to the stars above Trail my feathers in the sea of love Tie up my boat but know I'll head back soon; I still sail with honey And take plenty of money And I still dance by the light of the moon, by the light of the moon.
