Story behind the song
It is the afternoon of 11/11/74, 60 years after the end of The Great War. May Green sits in her front room knitting, thoughts of past and present become confused in her mind. She imagines she is making some gloves for her fiance Ron who is in the trenches - with these thoughts she drifts off to sleep and dies... Alf is the Vickers Gun number 6 crew man who survived the war and narates the story...
Lyrics
May's memory [fading into grey] Alf: The old lady sits in her rocking chair Thinking about the days when her man was there Raking up the embers of yesterdays dreams Trying to remember how it was when she was young And the photo on the mantleshelf is fading into grey Her tired hands are knitting some gloves for her loving Ron But he was listed missing and he's been gone so long The clock chimes four and her eyes close to rest The gloves slip to the floor she will never care again And the hair upon her tired head is fading into grey

nice acoustic guitar creates a very sweet melody and your vocals come in just at the same time as the same note is played...your vocals are very heartfelt, and you're a good story teller. love this song, it's gives a mental picture and a texture, even with just a singer/songwriter/guitarist song vs. band. partly because of the cool ring in the production...but lyrics are a bit low, needed to turn up the volume. otherthanthat - i love this story, and how it is being told with your beautiful voice and guitar playing - down to the last harmonics. peace--jd
