Story behind the song
I have written a new rockin', funny, informative holiday song that is a refreshing alternative to (Adam Sandler) the only frequently played Chanukah song on the radio. There is a major lack of radio friendly (not too religious) pop-rock Chanukah songs being played on the radio in December? In relation to the number of Jewish people who listen to the radio (or on-line music), this is a severe under representation of this population demographic (6,000,000 people in major US cities). Please contact your local radio station to request this song. Let's be heard this holdiay season!
Lyrics
What Is Chanukah? What - is Chanukah, tell me What - is the festival of lights, tell me How – only one day of olive oil Could last and last and last for eight holy nights What – is a menorah and a shamash, tell me Why – lighting the candles is a mitzvah, tell me Why – do we get eight days of presents starting on day twenty-five in the month of Kislev On Chanukah – 165 BC On Chanukah – We crushed their monarchy Who – is Judah Maccabee, tell me Why – did he fight the Selucid Greeks, tell me Why – did Hannah and her seven sons Refuse to bow down and eat pork – that dirty treyfe On Chanukah – 165 BC On Chanukah – We crushed their monarchy On Chanukah – We beat Antiochus the King Come on let’s fry them latkes Oh we recovered the temple And we cleaned it up real good Because of Judah the “Hammer” We could see the Chanukah lights at the end of the tunnel What - is Chanukah, tell me What - is the festival of lights, tell me How – only one day of olive oil Could last and last and last for eight holy nights On Chanukah – 165 BC On Chanukah – We crushed their monarchy On Chanukah – We beat Antiochus the King Come on let’s fry them latkes Oh we recovered the temple And we cleaned it up real good Because of Judah the “Hammer” We could see the Chanukah lights at the end of the tunnel Bo-ruch A-toh Ado-noi E-lo-hei-nu Me-lech Ho-olom A-sher Ki-de-sho-nu Be-mitz-vo-sov Ve-tzi-vo-nu Le-had-lik Ner Shel Cha-nu-kah.
