Grab the tissues for this one! It's a story song about our forgotten elderly! This is Victoria Boland's CD release version.
This song was inspired in part by watching my own grandparents spend out the last years of their own life in a nursing home and an episode of Golden Girls.
Forgotten Lullabies
(c) Colleen Laylon, BMI, 2007
V1
She sits and rocks alone at the old folks County home
clock chimes on the wall she just stares at the phone
her long golden curls have turned silver with time
she's so far from home with her Forgotten Lullabies
Chorus
Forgotten Lullabies from when her son was a child
she remembers them at night when she can't close her eyes
like a bird in a cage she sits and she waits
suspended in time with her Forgotten Lullabies
V2
She walks to the Rec Hall same routine every day
finds an empty seat feels she's taking up space
maybe her son will call she hasn't seen him in awhile
they say she's lost her mind with her Forgotten Lullabies
Repeat Chorus
Bridge
Her son got a call he was told she passed away
in that moment he recalled
a Forgotten Lullaby, Rock-a-bye, Rock-a-bye
Revised Chorus
Forgotten Lullabies from when he was a child
he remembers them at night it's too late to make it right
the boy inside the man pretends to hold her hand
tears fill his eyes as he recalls her lullabies
