Story behind the song
A Christmas song using snippets of various classic latin texts. For SSAATTBB choir and small orchestra. Celebrates, contemplates, mother rocks the baby tenderly in her arms and, intuiting the childs terrible fate, sheds tears of grief. Yet, all still ends in glory... I started this piece after singing the Rutter Magnificat and delighting in his use of unusual rhythms.
Lyrics
Text: Hodie, Christus natus est! Oh magnum mysterium! Salvator apparuit! Gloria in excelsis Deo! (Christ is born! Oh, great mystery! The Savior has appeared! Glory to God in the highest
