This song came about at rehearsal, one of our band members was leaving earlier than the rest of us and he couldn't find our drummer to say goodbye, I said 'I'll tell him you said goodbye' and as I said it I thought it would make a great song title, so I wrote it on my hand and before we got home the idea was setting in, out came the guitar and off we went!
I'll look after him you know I will
I'll do the things I heard you tell he likes so much
I like his smile I know so well n' in a while
I'll love his touch...
He'll get over you...
Oh please don't fret
And he'll love me too
Oh just you bet
When you are through, I tell you
Honey he'll get over you...
An' I'll tell him you said goodbye
I'll tell him not to cry...
You'll be the shadow fallen
From his big blue eyes
And I'll tell him you went away
Not a day too soon
I'll love him honey I'll love him
I'll love him for you...
Ahh you told me things I shouldn't know
I found myself in confidence, a friendly foe
That man of yours, that love I knew
That you had known...
Now I need him too
And I've rolled the dice
An' he's leaving you
I know I'll pay the price...
If sins were wishes, wishes sins
What would love become of such wicked things
These deeds that burn and deeds that start
Longings bring a breakin' up in carefree hearts
He'll get over you
No please don't fret
And he'll love me too
Oh just you bet
When you are through, I tell you
Honey, he'll get over you...
An' I'll tell him you said goodbye
I'll tell him not to cry...
Oh You'll be the shadow fallen
From his big blue eyes
And I'll tell him you went away
Not a day too soon
I'll love him honey I'll love him
I'll love him for you...
