Story behind the song
I was trying to capture the sombre, sullen, moribund nature of the character Sepulchrave (Count Groan) from Mervyn Peake's 'Gormenghast' trilogy. I also incorporated 'A New Tradition' which I had written separately earlier, to convey his sense of optimism for the future after the birth of his son, Titus Groan.
