This song is dedicated to Perry Punches, who was a very talented musician, who passed in 1985 at the age of 27, while serving in the Navy, shortly before obtaining his pilot "wings"
Perry's mother gave my his guitar, with love, and the reguest that when it is my time I pass it on to someone else who will love it
you see this ol'guitar in that battered case, this guitar has a story , time cannot erase
the story of a mothers love, for a son who left to soon, never got to know him, but he's right here in this room
chorus
and this rich ol' wood resonates when I hit the strings
I swear that heaven opens up, I can here him sing
I feel his fingers on my hands every time I play.
and tonight we're singing harmony, on this martin d18
verse2
I listened while she wove the tale, about this fine young man
how he traveled all around this world, this guitar in his hand
in service to his country with a dream of flyin' planes,
the lord took him early and now he has his wings
chorus
verse3
his momma gave me this guitar with tears in her eyes,
she said, play it and love it , the rest of your life,
and when you'r journeys over leave it behind it the arms of one you've chosen, who will let it shine
chorus
