God Forgives Drunks and Fools
They ran him from that restaurant
out in the sleet and rain
'cause he was holding a sign, and he smelled of wine
and some customers complained
his hands trembled like leaves
on a tired autumn tree
his poor late wife, was his whole life
and all that he could see
and he just stumbled away
as folks stared out the window
but they didn't see him, all they saw was sin
'cause somehow they didn't know
God forgives drunks and fools
for imperfect things they do
when this world is hard and cruel
God forgives me and you
everyone that lives, yes God forgives
God forgives drunks and fools
in the paper the next day
they said that when he died
frost was on his clothes, and the cheap wine froze
in a bottle by his side
we can believe it's true
that heaven looked out for him
if he saw his wife's face, in a better place
when his final light grew dim
but what of foolish people
who showed no mercy that day
did their hearts bleed tears, do they sleep with fear
or did they kneel down to pray
God forgives drunks and fools
when they know not what they do
when this world is hard and cruel
God forgives me and you
everyone that lives, yes God forgives
God forgives drunks and fools
