There is a message to all parents here, in this Beatlesque song by the incomparable Jim DeLecce...I just got to add a few lyrics; he did the hard work!
Jim had already written the main bulk of this song and asked me to make it a little more Brit than it was already. I found the challenge really fun to take up, since i do write a lot of children's poems already. But, for me, the challenge was made all the sweeter because Jim is one of my favourite singer/composers on Sound Click and his love of the Beatles sound is most infectious -- and I was already a fan since I was a little girl!!
Fairy Tales...by Jim and Dawn
fairytales and lullabyes
skimming stones and dragonflies
this is all a little boy should dream about
roaring fires at story time
singing songs and nurs’ry rhymes
another day is done
tomorrow we can have more fun
being a child happens once in a lifetime
fill them with precious memories
b’fore you know, they will forget and leave this time
so help them be who they can be
handsome princes riding by
sleeping beauties, castles high
puppies playing in the snow
what more do children need to know
bubblegum and skipping ropes
christmas magic, scented soaps
punch and judy, puppet friends
don’t ever let this journey end
being a child happens once in a lifetime
fill them with precious memories
b’fore you know, they will forget and leave this time
so help them be who they can be
fairytales and lullabyes
rocking horses, butterflies
this is all any child should have to think about
being a child happens once in a lifetime
fill them with precious memories
b’fore you know, they will forget and leave this time
so help them be who they can be
