Story behind the song
The song Prayer for Peace, from the CD Peace in The Valley, opens with the phrase, "a cradle and a grave, a sandstone wall in sight, on a hill so far away, a city bathed in light..." I had visited Jerusalem many years ago, and I remember standing on a hill outside the walls of the city, and actually seeing a golden light emanating from the city...it blew me away, and so I decided to try to write a song that reflected my feelings about that experience. In another part of the song I wrote, "a vessel shaped by hand, a tapestry of white, the sandaled feet that walked the land where Prophets gave their lives,"....this had to do with all the Holy men and women who have walked the deserts of the Middle East, in search, ultimately, for Peace. This song is my prayer, in honor of those who have, and continue to, dream of Peace.
Lyrics
PRAYER FOR PEACE by Jennifer Avalon & Noel Boland A cradle and a grave A sandstone wall in sight On a hill so far away A city bathed in light And the doves that fly beyond the dome are Heading for the sky For the promise of the day, when all unite All unite All children of one God Though separate in their faiths They must fill their hearts with love To find a better way And the tears that fall behind closed doors They will soon be dried For the promise of the day, when all unite All unite A PRAYER FOR PEACE PRAYER FOR PEACE A vessel shaped by hand A tapestry of white The sandaled feet that walk the land Where prophets gave their lives The prayers that fill the desert air In the dark of night For the promise of the day, when all unite All unite A PRAYER FOR PEACE PRAYER FOR PEACE A PRAYER FOR PEACE PRAYER FOR PEACE (c) Jennifer Avalon
