Story behind the song
I have a very strange way of creating, I think. I get a vision or idea and it's like a form into which things are poured. I knew that my third CD would be called White unto Harvest when as yet no songs were written. The last song written was the title track. It's based on John 4.
Lyrics
White unto Harvest The fields are white unto harvest, The laborers are so few; Cry to the Lord, give him no rest, Ask the Lord what to do. And today when you hear, The voice of the Lord Of the whole earth, Don't harden your heart. But open your ear! Open your ear! There's no more time to be wasting, Work while it is day, All around you men perish, Why will you delay? Lift up your eyes? What do you see? For these he died: The Man not free, The child who cries. Bring them nigh: When you gaze at the cross, Where God's love flows down! Just gaze at the cross, Where grace is found! Can you forget the road came by, Just because reach the end? Can you forget the name you're called by, Just because he calls you friend? Friend you lift up your eyes? What do you see? For these he died: The Man not free, The child who cries. Bring them nigh: To the foot of the cross, Where grace is found. At the foot of the cross, God's love came down.
