Story behind the song
After a most unsettling and busy day I decided to sit down and play the flute and get grounded. While playing the flute my thoughts went to visit my brother the Horned Owl. I had envisioned this magnificent bird of prey sitting on an old tree stump in the dead of night. He would observe all his surroundings taking in everything and leaving nothing for granted. He would listen to all the night creatures at his door step going about their business of life. The Owl is very calculating prior to making any decisions and taking any action he would contemplate all of the possibilities and options. Only when he came to a definitive decision as a result of his watchfulness would he take action.
We sometimes go through life on auto pilot and do the same things day in and day out and wonder why things don't change. We can all learn from the lessons that our brother the Horned Owl teaches us all we need to do is open our hearts and minds and observe.
