MUSIC: Composed & arranged for piano, strings, oboe, & choir.
INSPIRATION: The maiden voyage of the Titanic (see story).
On December 13th, 1994, I put together the first few notes of a musical composition that reminded me of a great ship bound for a long voyage across the seas. Something in the music, however, hinted at a dangerous journey ahead, possibly a doomed voyage. As if confirming my fears, the first comforting movement of the piano-strings ensemble gave way to a piercing oboe that seemed to echo the desperate cries of passengers who understood the sealed fate of their huge ship. After a hopeful beginning, a dark piano scale finally filled the air around the ship and magically dragged it slowly under the sea. Suddenly, I realized that my new musical composition might represent yet another story of the famous last voyage of the Titanic!
