Story behind the song
This is a reading from my prayer book. I have always identified with the Jewish People in exile. God's announcement to bring them home is one of the most hopeful occurrances in Salvation History.
Lyrics
Words and music by Johnny Proctor When you lived in the home that I gave to your fathers, You defiled my gifts, so I scattered you to the winds Not for your sakes do I do what I do, When I do what I do for my holy Name’s sake- I will take you from every nation And bring you again to your own home I will sprinkle clean water upon you and Cleanse you from all that defiled you You’ll multiply like a flock And I will answer your prayers What once lay in ruin and waste I will restore to your families Not for your sakes do I do what I do, When I do what I do for my holy Name’s sake- I’ll give a new heart and mind to you Taking away that useless stone heart I’ll put my Spirit inside you And you’ll be my people And I’ll be your own God When men divided my flock My compassions were kindled There will be one Shepherd, one flock And my people will know me Not for your sakes do I do what I do, When I do what I do for my holy Name’s sake- I will take you from every nation And bring you again to your own home I will sprinkle clean water upon you and Cleanse you from all that defiled you I’ll give a new heart and mind to you Taking away that useless stone heart I’ll put my Spirit inside you And you’ll be my people And I’ll be your own God © 2002 Old Sarge Music
