Story behind the song
I was on patrol in Baghdad with my unit (the 82nd Airborne) and I started to think about my wife and kids. I missed them dearly. The music is rich, romantic and full of texture. I got home and recorded it with tears in my eyes. After a year at war, my life has changed and my sound is a little sweeter.
Lyrics
YOUR SOLDIER'S COMING HOME Words and music by Johnny Proctor Darling, now it's over- Your soldier's coming home We can spend our lives togther How I've missed you How I love you Darling, please be waiting When I step off of the plane I'll be counting down the moments How I've missed you! How I love you! Since I left you for the combat zone The dangers I've been through Have increased my love for you You've been faithful, brave and loyal And I thank the Lord above I can trust in your sweet love Darling, now it's over- Your soldier's coming home We can spend our lives togther How I've missed you How I love you Darling, please be waiting When I step off of the plane I'll be counting down the moments How I've missed you! From your letters I took courage In the darkness of the war You've been what I'm fighting for Tell the children I'm delighted With their pictures and their poems Tell them Daddy's coming home We've waited so long, in such pain Our waiting has not been in vain Our dreams about to come true I'm so glad I married you! Darling, now it's over- Your soldier's coming home We can spend our lives togther How I've missed you How I love you Darling, please be waiting When I step off of the plane I'll be counting down the moments How I've missed you!
