The inspiration for this song probably started with Kate Rusby. She is a folk singer with one of the most beautiful voices ever. I searched around on the internet for old Irish folk lyrics and decided to set them in a more modern musical setting. I appreciate the simplicity and story of the lyrics and it allows me to concentrate more on expressing a particular mood through the music and vocals.
Black is the color of my true love's hair
Her lips are like some roses fair
She's the sweetest smile and gentlest hands
I love the ground whereon she stands
CHORUS
I love my love and well she knows
I love the grass whereon she goes
I know the day will never come
when she and I will be as one
I go to the Clyde for to mourn and weep
but satisfied I never can sleep
I'll write her a letter, just a few short lines
and suffer death ten-thousand times
CHORUS
I love my love and well she knows
I love the grass whereon she goes
I know the day will never come
when she and I will be as one
I know my love and well she knows
I love the grass whereon she goes
If she on earth no more I see
my life will quickly fade away
