Inspired by the Christian Barth book, "The Garden State Parkway Murders", that happened in 1969 in South Jersey. The still unsolved murder left the two girls in the woods along side the Garden State Parkway between mile markers 31.8 and 31.9.
The song was inspired by the Christian Barth book "The Garden State Parkway Murders", written and sung by Paul Evans Pedersen, Jr., and performed and recorded entirely by Jimmy Heffernan at 5511 Music, Haddon Hts., NJ
BETWEEN THIRTY ONE EIGHT AND NINE
C.2020 By Paul Evans Pedersen, Jr./Mount Misery Music, BMI
V1
Between two mile markers on the Parkway
Hidden by the laurel, oaks and pines
The memory of two friends lingers forever
And lives between thirty-one eight and nine
And lives between thirty-one eight and nine
V2
Leaving the shore by car that early morning
They headed north along the G.S.P.
But somewhere on that road an evil found them
And left them like no girls should ever be
And left them like no girls should ever be.
CHORUS
And dear lord how could this happen
And go unsolved since nineteen sixty nine
Somewhere, someone knows
Who left their neatly folded clothes
There between thirty-one eight and nine
V3
Elizabeth and Susan stay remembered
By friends and by their families for all time
And I say them both a prayer each time I pass them
There between thirty-one eight and nine
There between thirty-one eight and nine
CHORUS
And dear lord how could this happen
And go unsolved since nineteen sixty nine
Somewhere, someone knows
Who left their neatly folded clothes
There between thirty-one eight and nine
