Story behind the song
In the beginning there was perfect union between man and God and between man and woman. Then man chose to rebel against God by disobeying His one command. That unity being severed, the world began a downward spiral to the point that all hell broke loose. But God sent His Son, Jesus, to restore mans union with God. The cost to restore that union was Jesus own life. As Jesus prepared to pay that price the next day, he served His disciples by washing their feet, and he prayed that they would experience the same perfect unity that He had with His Father and the Holy Spirit in Heaven. As Jesus went through the process of redeeming the world from sin, although there were people around him, he was alone. No one else could carry that burden because only he was sinless. Even his Father in Heaven had to turn His eyes away (You are of purer eyes than to look upon sin Habakkuk 1:13). He cried out from the cross, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? On that day the disciples were of one mind. They all were filled with fear. But now, through Christs death and resurrection, they had hope and purpose. Christ had broken down the wall of sin that separated man from God. He did this for all the people in all the world. There is only one race; the human race. When someone receives a blood transfusion, it doesnt matter what ethnic group that blood comes from. The only differences between ethnic groups are superficial. We have variations in skin pigmentation. We are all Gods offspring. But, as in many families, not all the children follow their fathers instruction. To be restored to right relationship with God, we must be born again of the Holy Spirit. This is evidenced in our baptism. For God so love THE WORLD that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)
