Story behind the song
Nashville recording artist Andrew Dean is an accomplished PERFORMER and ENTERTAINER, who lights up the stage and really leaves the audience wanting more. He is a natural when it comes to performances; captivating the audiences, and moving folks to laughter from tears. In a vast array of self-penned songs, Andrew is able to relate emotions and brings out a comical atmosphere whenever he sings his award-winning song “Money Tree”. Andrew’s tender ballad “In A Mother’s Eyes” has brought many to tears, relating an ever-increasing emotion of loss. Andrew will travel to Norfolk, Virginia, where he will present this song to the National Convention of Gold Star Mothers on JULY 4, 2004. These mothers have one very special element in common; they have all suffered the loss of a son or daughter to casualty of war. Their children, paying the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms, died protecting our rights to a free existence. Andrew brings a sense of healing with his words, spiritual presence with his devotion, and comfort in his caring smile as he presents a wide variety of music including Country, Gospel, Bluegrass, and Patriotic. Radio audiences worldwide are enjoying songs from Andrew Dean & The Farm Machine's two CDs on NITE*SKY records: "The Harvest" (country) and "A New Horizon" (Gospel), which are receiving excellent reviews and airplay. Lyrics
IN A MOTHER’S EYES (Alvina Krotzer-Homecoming) Songwriter (c) 1999 Andrew Dean The day that our flagpole was ready, We had no flag to fly Then a mother stepped forward and said I have a flag with a tear in her eye It was given to me the day that we laid my son to rest He was a true blue soldier who gave his life his best I got a knot in my throat and a chill in my bones A tear rolled down my face A mother has lost her son at war The pain on her face In a mother’s eyes you can see red, white, and blue In a mother’s eyes you can see the pain so true Freedom comes with a cost of sadness and loss You can see in a mother’s eye When someone puts their life on the line so others can be free It’s a selfless act of courage and love, how thankful we all should be And when I see the flag today, I see a whole new meaning there I see the men and the women who died for her So in this freedom we can share In a mother’s eyes you can see red, white, and blue In a mother’s eyes you can see the pain so true Freedom comes with a cost of sadness and loss You can see in a mother’s eye In a mother’s eyes you can see red, white, and blue In a mother’s eyes you can see the pain so true Freedom comes with a cost of sadness and loss You can see in a mother’s eyes. * In memory of PFC Lynn Robin Krotzer (KIA 1969 Vietnam)
