Story behind the song
The planet Mars is a last bastion of Uranus' robots to destroy attackers or potential enemies.
Since Mars is the God of War, the best warriors are trained here who use the robots against humans as warriors. The crew around Captain Kirk knows how to checkmate these robots relatively easily and without a fight without great bloodshed: it is the human love that can soothe these monsters.
Only when the biggest human sacrifice is made LOVE, the crew can win the fight and fly on to Uranus. But the human sacrifice will consist in separating two lovers from each other and leaving one of the lovers here.
In fact, there is such a couple in the crew that the man sacrifices himself and stays behind. This is also the one who sings the song in this part, the song is about the challenge on Mars, and it's just this beautiful song that ends up favoring the Gods of and putting a large army of on the side of the man, who, together with the divine principles, can defeat the war robots and then fly on with both lovers and the whole crew.
