A sweet tune hailing the coming of spring
Every year in Washington DC, we look forward the coming of the cherry blossoms around the Tidal Basin. Not only is it one of the most beautiful sights in the country, it brings such hope for renewal, peace, and friendship.
Since the cherry trees were a gift from Japan to the US, we wanted to use a touch of Japanese culture in the song. The verses are in classic Haiku form and the lead is played on a Koto.
Bursting in the spring
Cherry Blossoms fill the trees
Easing winter’s sting
Folks from everywhere
Come to stroll the basin round
Fragrance fills the air
Chorus
In Cherry Blossom Spring the birds in chorus sing
They melt our cold hearted weather
In Cherry Blossom Spring the friendship that they bring
Gives hope for peace together
2 Instrumental Verses repeat Chorus
With April’s cool breeze
Cherry petals float and fly
Snowflakes of the trees
River flows along
Summer warmth can not be far
Hear our joyful song
Chorus
