A collaboration with Chris Lambert (soundclick.com/Goodenough). There is also a video.
Chris suggested a collaboration and sent a demo guitar part ... I sent back the first two verses and some demo backing ... asked what he thought .... he sent back an idea about 'ship fever' which became central to the story. The song was in the key of D and the only harmonica I had was in D, so I gave it a try. That's how song collabs work. Much of that demo work is still in this song, hopefully maintaining that fresh (if occasionally loose) sound.

I dream of the Yorkshire moors
Hebden Bridge and the textile mills
old grey houses and drystone walls
weaving across the rainswept hills
I left on the Rochdale canal
To Castleton and Manchester
To Liverpool where an emigree was I
working my way to America
we sailed steerage on a packet ship
through heavy seas and driving rain
when the fever struck and I fell so sick
I swore that I would never sail that way again
so I lived in the new world
building the railroads and the factories
now I am old and I sit by the door
they call it a job but it's just charity
we sailed steerage on a packet ship
through heavy seas and driving rain
when the fever struck and I fell so sick
I swore that I would never sail that way again
I dream of the Yorkshire moors
Hebden bridge and the textile mills
old grey houses and drystone walls
weaving across the rainswept hills
