A song about finding my place in this universe.
They find me standing here with my feet on the ground,
Blissfully unaware of the world spinning ‘round,
Forever rotating around a center axis,
One in a billion billions exists,
A rock of debris haphazardly created long ago,
From chaos and luck came position, ergo,
Water and oxygen and a mild clime,
The result of random events coinciding in time,
Chemical compounds in primeval stews,
Combined to form life in an organic brew,
The first simple cells not reliant on light,
Evolved without direction, without foresight,
Just a byproduct of chance more apt to produce,
Suddenly the numbers receive a great boost,
Eons pass and amnesia shadows creation,
Replaced by xenophobic self proclamations!
So I’m feeling awfully small in the grand scheme of things,
One blade of grass amongst a blossoming spring,
This wide world just a cell of the entire universe,
Surely we aren’t the ones who evolved first,
And I’m feeling awfully small in the grand scheme of things,
Our survival on the whim of when far off disaster rings,
Trying to make a difference but it all feels rehearsed,
How can someone so miniscule make things less worse?
Still I’m feeling awfully small in the grand scheme of things,
Seems like I can’t control what my future brings,
Destined to live in this perpetual curse,
Unable to fix myself, my wounds can’t be nursed
Yes, I’m just feeling awfully small
Not a significant figure in the measure of it all,
And I’m feeling awfully small in the grand scheme of things,
Nothing can be done to remedy this sting.
