Contemporary country song
This is the 1st song that Donna and I ever wrote together and it took me awhile to get the demo finished on this one due to bad timing and trials of life. But I loved the lyric idea and when I wrote the music for it, it kind of reminded me of something Tim McGraw might record so I tried to sound as close to him in the studio as possible.
I would love to pitch the song to him one day and I love the guitar work that Ken Gabriel did on this one. Hope you enjoy!
Verse 1
Mister can you help me for a minute
I need to buy a dozen or two
I wrote her address on this matchbook
No card this time, I hope this vase will do
A satin bow in red her favorite color
A rose for every year by my side
No note of explanation from the sender
Can’t let her know about the tears I’ve cried
Chorus
so Don’t Tell Her It Was Me who sent the roses
Don’t let her know my heart’s still on the mend
I know her love for me is really over
But I’d like to know I made her smile again
What I wouldn’t give to get things back
The way they used to be
But I let her slip away
So Don’t Tell Her It Was Me
Verse 2
She gave me everything a man could ask for
I never gave her very much at all
But I’m hoping she can find a few good memories
By the time those petals start to fall
Repeat Chorus
Bridge
Well she did her best to love a restless man
And I hope that when she looks at these
She will understand
Repeat Chorus
Oh I let her slip away
So Don’t Tell her It Was Me
