Story behind the song
"Calvary's Love" relates the events surrounding the death and burial and glorious resurrection of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. We hope you are blessed by the grand old story that never grows old!
Lyrics
Calvary’s Love From Jerusalem to Golgotha the crowd makes it’s way Howling and mocking; “Crucify Him,” they say. As He falls ‘neath the weight of my sin and the cross The mob shows no mercy and it seems all is lost. They lead Him through the streets of the city in shame; True to His Father’s will, this is why He came. Sinful men crucify Him on Calvary’s hill But it’s love that holds Him there, not three rusty nails. Hanging there on a cross with two common thieves To one He shows mercy though no mercy He receives. As they gamble for His robe and Mary looks on A soldier affirms; “Surely this is God’s Son!” From the cross in the middle there rings out a cry: “It is finished, It is finished!” Man won’t have to die! Heaven’s hall then fall silent as God turns from the scene And men ask the question: “What can all of this mean?” Sadly they place Him in Joseph’s new tomb, In despair they gather there in the upper room. As hell and it’s demons begin to rejoice In glorious triumph angels lift up their voice! From the tomb in the garden there rings out a cry; “He arose! He’s alive!” Men don’t have to die! Now I sing His praises for the love and the grace That sent Him to Calvary to die in my place! Jesus shed His life’s blood my poor soul to save, He arose triumphant over hell and the grave. How can I help but sing His praises for the love and the grace That sent Him to Calvary to die in my place! David G. Byers Copyright 1993 David & Linda Byers
