Orphée est maintenant au coeur du royaume des ombres où tout n'est que semblant et il doit faire preuve de la plus grande prudence pour retrouver Eurydice. Tout autour de lui, dans le calme apparent, résonnent les lugubres complaintes des trépassés. Plus il avance et plus le souffle pestilentiel et les ricanements se font menaçants. Puis on entend comme des fouets et des grincements. L'accélération finale raconte sa fuite éperdue.
