Excerpt From Plan B/ Reality Revisited, (Existential Children's Book)
Sep 8, 2007
1. If you picture in your mind the solar system in which our little planet spins as being an atom, the sun as being the nucleus of that atom, the earth as being a positively charged electron within that same atom, (although some could argue with good conscience that it is a negatively charged neutron), the other planets in our solar system as being protons, neutrons, electrons or whatever within that one atom, then if you are compelled to conceptualize a God, conceptualize that atom as an atom in the eye of that God. 2. If in your mind’s eye you visualize your two parents, your four grand parents, your eight great grandparents, your sixteen great, great, grandparents, your thirty two great, great, great grandparents, your sixty four great, great, great ,great, grandparents, you will have arrived at the total of one hundred and twenty eight individuals whose temporal existence was necessary to culminate in your present existence, non-inherent that it is. One hundred and twenty eight individuals who probably not only did not know each other but also, for the most part possessed no knowledge of one another’s existence. You, occupying this time and space, are one of one hundred and twenty eight people that are required to culminate in the existence of your great, great, great, great, great, great, grandchild. Do you know these people? Neither will your progeny whose existence is dependent upon the spinning of the ultimate web that will culminate in their personal appearance. 3. Imagine your death. Imagine that you collapse alone in a heap in the woods. Imagine an acorn dropping in the midst of your decomposing remains. Imagine that acorn sprouting as your remains once again become a part of the earth from whence it came now nourishing that sprout. See the clouds, the rain, the wind, time, space, growth and the changes that your little sprout experiences as it reaches for the sky, inch by inch. See that full grown, mature oak tree standing tall many years later, bearing acorns of it’s own, it’s leaves singing as the wind passes through it’s arms. Imagine over the course of time, one day that tree dying. On another day it’s long dead hulk falls over in the woods. On yet another day, see that tree being discovered by one who cuts the bulk of it up into lumber and the remaining smaller portions into firewood. See those pieces of firewood as they burn providing heat and fuel for your progeny who huddle around the fire in a room built from your same tree having never known you to exist as an ancestor much less as part of the wood which shelters and warms them. As the moisture in the burning wood returns to the sky and as the fiber turns to smoke and ash, remember the ashes as they return to the earth as being nothing new. 4. Breathing, how it is taken for granted until one cannot easily take the next breath. It may well be that the primary service that humans perform on this planet is the conversion of oxygen into carbon dioxide for the benefit of the plants and to perform this service within the eco-circle. What if this is the true value and purpose of mankind and all other carbon based creatures that breath? This would explain in part the apparent ambivalence of existence whether or not an individual has redeeming social value. Mankind suffers the delusion that everything that exists, exists for him. It is more likely that the opposite is correct.
