A big howdy from TN. I thought I stop by & say hello ..Thank you for wanting to be our friend...We do wish you the best in all that you do..
A Prayer For You..... I said a prayer for you today and know God must have heard I felt the answer in my heart although He spoke no word. I didn't ask for wealth or fame I knew you wouldn't mind. I asked Him to send treasures of a far more lasting kind. I asked that He'd be near you at the start of each new day to grant you health and blessings and friends to share your way. I asked for happiness for you in all things great and small but it was for His loving care I prayed the most of all.
God bless you..Your new friends Jim N Carolyn Barber

P.S.: also you mentioned moving them around on the strings to stop the overtones..(the leather strap or grommets).
Since I've never heard the overtones, (not a tuned ear yet), I don't know if they are happening or not.
Is there a position on the string for the dampners that is more likely to inhibit the overtones, (like say, closer to the tailpiece or closer to the bridge), or is it different for every instrument?????

I have had "M.A.S." for a while now. I've owned mostly (in fact "all") Pacrim mandos (as they call them in mandolincafe.com). "Cost" of a 1920's Lloyd Loar is prohibitive (heck, even the new "Gibsons" are too expensive for MY blood), and so I'll stay with my MK, Epi, Washburn, Kentucky, etc...
Question: I've been using an old mandolin strap (flat leather, about 3/8ths of an inch wide) cut into 2 inch strips so that I could put one in each of my string sets on each mando, behind the Bridge, as a dampner. I'm not confident however, that I'm getting proper dampning on the upper G string and lower E string because of the limp hanging of the end of the leather strap. Think I should make it a tad longer, and weave it back through at an angle, to get full dampning on those two outside strings? (or is it good enough as is???
