This was a very important K-Tel compliation that introduced me to some amazing new bands in 1981. I was already aware of several songs on there, but there were some unknown gems too. Plus a few duff ones! The thing that annoyed me though was the fact K-Tel would edit the songs to make them shorter! Madness. Still some of my favourite bands and songs...
A new album for June 2013. I'm going to stop posting descriptions and tracklistings for albums as they come out though. There are just too many, and nobody's looking anyway.
Here's what I made at a cigar-box guitar workshop run by Chickenbone John. It sounds amazing.
Sixteen new originals plus a Marc Bolan cover. There's a lot of genre-hopping on this album: jazz, psych, retro electronica, reggae, rock, folk, pop, surf-rock, and acoustic ballads. And I play quite an array of instruments: guitars, bass, uke, harmonica, slide guitar, keyboards, percussion, and lots of orchestration (including plenty of brass). The title track is my favourite song (so far!) of any that I've written over the years.
