Losing the Common Touch: The Impact of the Internet on the Socialization of Contemporary American Thoughts By: Brother Jamaal Amir Bolden Delta Phi Chapter Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. ” Laziness is nothing more than the habit of resting before you get tired.” ~Jules Renard~ The internet for almost 30 years has been the claim of a life made so simple. In a world where bills took almost a week to be paid by mail takes only minutes after clicking the send icon on such sites as gmac.com. Where it took having to go on vacation in order to shop at a favorite clothing store across the nation or even the world, takes seconds to order and be delivered off amazon.com. And to add fuel to this fire of simplicity men and women have basically done away with house phones and have put more emphases on visual phones known to us as yahoo messenger, Google mail and cell phones known as PDA's and IPhones. Consequently, this comes at a cost to ones eyes and fingers that we all recognize as blindness, and arthritis let alone two predictors that could bring about the death of a nation; laziness and obesity. Macaluso's 2001edition states that Internet users spend on average 10 hours and 19 minutes surfing the World Wide Web; that number increased 7 percent from the nine hours and 14 minutes recorded a year earlier. This statistic leaves me to fathom this idiom of why God stated in his ten commandments “Thou shalt have no other gods before me." But allow me to further expound on the heart of this matter. You know it makes me wonder. Why we as a people put asunder our priorities against our fun. It seems as if we subject ourselves to the illiteracy of blogs spots and myspace messages rather than putting more emphasis on teaching us as well as our younger ones how to write full fledged sentences. And I find it uncanny, such research in which we so search for comes from no books, but in fact is researched on the faux pas of our fellow men and women on facebook. In which on a side bar, friend request will be denied less you are a female. But in more detail, the American people show no interest in the economy, but in the economic growth of Hollywood through assimilation of the gossip off of the dot coms from Media Take Out. By the way, who has more clout? Is it 50 cent and his thievery of Rick Ross’ baby momma, or Chris Brown committing an act of domestic violence against Rihanna? These and other stories on “Blogemup.com.” You see as time pushes forward us as people refuse compromise, or in another light quote slogans as if they were Bible verses and use them for our own convenience. For example, “Yes we can.” “Yes we can.” “Yes we can.” Sadly to say, we have yet to. We have yet to inform husbands and wives of the damaging effects from the causes of watching adult material. Or the potential segregation of family members by choice, when one chooses to beget a love who returns no love from a social network in their community of so called mutual friends. This leads to the question at hand. What is community? Oxford’s collegiate dictionary defines Community as the traditional sense of having an interpersonal interaction with individuals through such means as face-to-face communication. Thus, due to the rapid growth of the Internet, society has been blinded to the potentially negative effects of online usage. People's high Internet usage results in alienation and isolation, thus reducing social capital. In addition to the negative impact the Internet has on our social ties, it has now become a hunting ground for bullies, pedophiles, and other harmful behaviors decreasing social trust. Yet such trust is acted upon when we allow younger sisters, younger brother, sons and daughters access into this assembly of radicals who proclaim vengeance upon those who fall prey to the paradox of insurance letting them kn
Imagine That J. Bolden ALCHEMIST ITZUMIAKI My imagination spans the length of the Euphrates And is about a deep as the abyss of a catacomb. My imagination rains down kings from as far as the Atlantis, But rules longer than Caesar Augustus of Rome. See you wouldn’t be able to control my imagination Because it can cause nations to crumble under my feet from what I be imaginating. And before you start to think my speech is wrong My imagination can tower you ten fold Then come crashing down on you Causing a disruption in the language barrier like the fall of the Tower of Babylon. So imagine that Oh you can’t because your mind is blocked by a tube That dispenses hi def images from a game system. But while you’re trying to figure out which member of the flood you going to shoot, I’m imagining myself shooting the breeze with the falcons That fly the Prairie’s Or sitting on an incline while waiting on my countdown to shoot me to planet X While my imagination tells me I’m going to make it there by any means necessary. My imagination can get me traveling the four seasons Before reserving me a room at the four seasons and sleep through for four seasons Before the sun rises. My imagination can get me cooking up edible foods By just using bread, herbs, and spices With sol at my fingertips causing it to be leaven. Leaven bread being my way to heaven which falls with the morning dew. Times two making my imagination complete equaling eight Raging the time that my imagination will stop when it’s time to compete Against the Sagittarian Nation Causing a new creation when I nut these juices into its crevices, Hatching scorpions that’ll poison it from the inside out with my imaginativeness. Compelling them to want to join me with their creativity Instead of joining each other with the urge of their polygamy. Unleashing comets upon comets striking the Earth repeatedly Like an air raid in the United Kingdom Heating it up to 50,000K but then cooling it with a meteorite Causing covalent bonds in the soil Which will raise up fantasies of diamonds after my imagination stops crying. Dying will be the new word in this paradox Of television fears dealing with Vanity fairs and gossip girls Diseased beings and pregnancy scares. The Happening is finished The ice is pure The villains are defeated I am the Hulk Bruce Banner with my imagination as the cure So believe it to your fullest potential then you’ll conceive it All it takes is a book, and your mind Then the rest is intrinsic. Imagine that.
