My Muse Has A Mistress
As my thoughts crash
into the ceiling of my imagination,
inspiration flees from me swiftly,
like a star sailing through the night,
rushing to let whomever will view its brilliance.
My stomach knots and
my words crowd the back of my throat
like pieces of crumpled paper
stained with the ink of useless metaphors.
My confidence is weak and brittle
like dry strands of straw.
I cross my fingers
hoping creativity will flow through me
like the Ochre River moves over muddy streams,
instead of slipping under me
like loose gravel beneath my feet.
I wonder
when she'll return
to dance with me.
