Brandon Rice, The Quick Story
Dec 22, 2008

I quit my job at Sony, after 14 1/2 years of building cathode ray tubes. The opening of China destroyed American Manufacturing jobs as well as a new change in technology, LCD, Plasma, etc. At Sony, I worked everyday with some of the most advanced state of the art machines. I LOVED IT! I loved the challenge of figuring out the problems that others couldn't. It was natural to me, like breathing. I also became the youngest highest paid hourly employee making picture tubes. I grew up at the forefront of the feminist movement. Mom, married and divorced 5 times, and Dad, 4 times. Maybe thats why I became The Middle Man. None of my friends had divorced parents, but mom always told me it was normal. I took the CHSPE (California High School Proficiency Exam) at 15 years of age( Mom and I lied about my age) and graduated High School. I started Junior College at Mt San Jacinto Community College at age 15 majoring in Electronics. I was the youngest kid on campus. At age 16 I became a Emancipated Minor (a legal adult). I graduated Jr. College in 1987 when I should've graduated High School. Like most people I have been through many ups and downs. As a kid I dabbled in drugs, been to Juvenile Hall and learned many lessons, very quickly. I have always been interested in music. When I was 15 I told myself I was gonna do all this stuff myself, the only limitations were Marketing, Promotion, and Distribution. I knew all this before computers existed on a consumer level. Now many years later I find myself doing exactly what I wanted to do when I was a kid. I also determined that I wanted to make my own decisions. After playing in a Heavy Metal band called Ferocious Panty Lines in the early 90's and recording an album at Studio West, it changed me. I knew I wanted to know everything possible about the music business and do it all myself. I went back to school at Mira Costa Community College and studied recording arts. After 3 years I got my 2 year certificate and started an Internship at Studio West. I was so very lucky to work with a fellow named Jon Mathias who had previously worked at The Record Plant in New York for 20 years. He recorded many great artist, Kiss, Dickey Betts, Iggy Pop, etc. Unfortunately Jon passed away shortly after I finished my internship. After quitting Sony, I went back to school to learn Multi Media and also did a internship with KGBB 103.3 in Temecula which is a simulcast of KGB 101.5 in San Diego. That was allot of fun. I went back to work at a company called Hexfet in Temecula, making Computer Chips and 1 1/2 years went by and I could see 5 more years just flying by very quick. I had been writing and recording my own music, buying equipment, building my home studio, and I finally went to a songwriter Expo, called Durango Songwriter Expo, and received some really great feedback on my music, which I wasn't expecting, considering my recording quality was very shoddy compared to most folks that had attended. At that point I decided to make a move, I quit my job, cashed out of my 401K from my Sony days and continued my writing and recording, 10 months later I released The Middle Man album. I have marketed this album to all parts of the world through Myspace and received great feedback. It has been in a Surf Film, some indie films and received sporadic radio play throughout the US and the UK and Japan. Pretty good success for 1 person behind the wheel. Now, its been almost 3 years since I quit Sony, I have spent the last 2 years writing many many songs, 100's of them. Everyday I would write like 3 songs. I have now chosen 36 of those songs, which I am currently recording and Im gonna release my next CD soon, early 2009, which will consist of 2 or 3 cd's. If I can fit them on 2 I will do that. The CD will be $10.00, not a bad deal 36 songs for 10 bucks. The album is called Walking Through Walls, which seems to be a common them
