iCandy, Huh? Yeah! What is it good for?

iCandy is a beta research project by Ricoh Innovation Labs (RI Labs) that links the physical world with the virtual. The project seeks an answer to the question - iCandy, "huh, yeah, what is it good for?" - by putting the application in the hands of creative users.
As a songwriter and amateur musician I started thinking, "Hmm, where do I know a creative community of people with media on the internet and a desire to share it with people they meet everyday?" And then of course the obvious "aha! answer" - Soundclick!"
What is iCandy? It's a free beta s/w application that allows users on Windows & Mac to print cards and retrieve media associated with the card.
How does it work? Users create cards that include attractive images and text as well as a not so attractive (though definitely techy looking) machine readable qr code that links the card to media on your pc or on the internet. These cards can be physical cards you print and handout to people you meet at your live performances or wherever; or they can be "virtual" cards - jpeg images you can share with people by email or on the web. An iCandy user who receives a printed card can scan the qr code with a webcam and bring up the associated media while a user receiving a jpeg card can drag and drop it to the icandy application and enjoy that way.
So, I'd love to get your thoughts on iCandy and help in answering the age old question "Huh? Yeah! What is it good for?"

iCandy is a free beta s/w offering from Ricoh that can help musicians promote their online music. The software allows you to create cards with a qr code (barcode) associated with one of your songs or your homepage and is available for free download at . You can print the cards or publish on the web or through email. Friends and fans who download the same free s/w can scan the qr code with a webcam or drag jpeg cards to the application to enjoy your music.
