"You Can Dance With Me"
Jan 9, 2008

OK, lesson learned with this blog.... be very careful you don't delete blog by overwriting. Sighs.
"You Can Dance With Me" took an unusually long time for me to finish from start to worktape. Other songs came into my head and I shelved this on a number of occasions. I have even considered shelving it permanently. I'm glad I stuck to my principles I established over 2 years ago. This one was 'finish every song started'.
The straight 1/8 note version of the song happened by accident one night and it was the version first recorded. I'm not sure how or why, but I felt that groove and it remained until I heard some comments from some fellow songwriters. While the comments were not bad, some believed it to be too fast. Since I explained to them that I wondered that myself, and that I began writing it in a different feel, I was anxious to try the other feel, a swing or shuffle. I'm proud that version is done. I enjoy the wing version more than when I began this song project.
I hope you enjoy either or both.
Thanks
Dave

Swingified version - You Can Dance With Me
Jan 9, 2008

You might have noticed two versions of "You Can Dance With Me." The 'swingified' version was recorded and added to the soundclick page 2nd. I am pretty sure this is how I originally felt the song when I was writing it. For some reason, I took it to straight 1/8 note pattern and fellow songwriters offered some comments.
The present swing version may be a tad bit fast. It may actually be better as a slower shuffle, but I think you can get the idea. Since I've recorded both versions, I am seeing the straight version show on the charts (soundclick) more than the swing version. I'm not paying much attention to the charts on this one. I have found the swing version capturing the essence I felt in the beginning when I started writing it.
Time......and maybe an artist will tell!
