They say I'm a contradiction. I am an engineer by profession but a singer at heart. But music performance and engineering are not so very different really. They are both based on strict rules, one for physics, the other for anatomy (you can't really sing from the diaphragm, you always sing from your vocal chords!). But the implementation of both require a little more imagination. Engineering design expects you to imagine and create, make assumptions based on information, make decisions based on informed theories, but give ample room for error. Singing requires you to learn a technique that suits you. You learn by imagining and feeling, create sounds against a standard, learn singing through experience...
