The Jaybyrds
Aug 6, 2008
This is my one-man-band. The name springs from a combination of my childhood nickname, Jaybird, and my love of the 60's group, the Byrds. I have written literally dozens of pop-rock-contemporary Christian tunes. So, the easiest way to get them into a recorded form is to do it myself. Some of them aren't done by The King's Highway because they are too "rocky rolly" as Frank, my friend and member of The King's HIghway band, sometimes says and aren't suitable for presentation to a formal church congregation. They are more suited to private listening by folks who have the same musical roots as I but still love the Lord and want to hear how he has impacted my life.
To accomplish these one-man recordings I use the same 8 track digital recorder TKH uses together with the help of some computer software and electronics for background stuff and percussion. Honestly, I get comments from one extreme to the other about my work with the lyrics and the music. I know I am not a superior musician and certainly not as a singer, but I still have a passion for both and choose to follow that path. I like all kinds of music and hopefully that uniquely flavors my productions and makes them acceptable to a wider range of listeners. My main goal is to share my songs because I believe God has shared them with me first.

The King's Highway

The band is simply Frank Johnson and myself. We've played together for many years and enjoy singing the praises of God while we are at it. Of all our recordings, only two are professionally produced, the rest are produced at home on my 8 track digital recorder. Frank plays the six-string acoustic guitar and electric bass guitar, as well as sings backup vocals with an occasional lead vocal (his choice). On most of our songs I sing lead vocals and play 12-string acoustic guitar. Occasionally, I play an electric guitar and we get a little help from our electronic friends with strings and or drums or not.
