Band/artist history
Pott Street has been pushing Hip Hop forward in the Northern Territory since the group came together in the mid 1990's as the natural progression of a shared love of Hip Hop culture and music between close friends growing up on the same street in Darwin, Pott Street. Comprising of 4 members with 4 distinct styles, Fliz, ‘O’ Zee, Gusto and Dizzle, create a sound that can simply be described as unique within the Australian Hip Hop community. Ever confident and curious in their recordings, Pott Street is not shy when it comes to utilizing all forms of instrumentation to create timeless music. From classic break beats and obscure samples, to live guitar and crashing drums, intricate rhymes and melodic hooks to soaring female vocals, Pott Street’s music delivers with a laid back ease and funky flow typical of the classic Darwin lifestyle. Through tireless networking and the in-grained hustle that comes with the Hip Hop culture, Pott Street has managed to independently secure National and International radio play for their music on stations such as Radio Larrakia and TEABBA Radio in the N.T, Radio Adelaide in S.A, CAAMA Radio in Q.L.D, The Edge 96.1FM in Sydney with K-Sera (Australia’s leading Hip Hop & RNB Show), Triple J’s Hip Hop show with Maya Jupiter and internationally with the BBC. Pott Street has also participated in nationally and internationally syndicated Radio Interviews with BBC, The Edge 96.1FM, Radio Adelaide, Blue Thunder on Radio Larrakia and Live & Loud on TEABBA Radio. Pott Street's live show’s are always a high energy event and the group is also well known for hosting and performing at “Pott Street Party’s” in clubs around Darwin since 2001. Pott Street is now in their 8th year of hosting the “Annual Pott Street Xmas Party” which the crew puts on every Christmas at The Rox on Mitchell Street, Darwin City. The group has also performed at numerous local and indigenous showcase concerts with MusicNT & the Darwin Fringe Festival including FIGJAM and Naidoc Day and were also the Headlining Act for the Launch of Redfern Records Entertainment Label at Moulin Rouge in Sydney in late 2007. Pott Street’s hit songs “We Luv 2 Party” and “This Is What It Is” were also featured on the Redfern Records release “Beats from tha Streets Volume One” which is Australia’s 1st ever Aboriginal Hip Hop/Rap Compilation. The album was officially released in late 2008 and can be found in selected JB Hi-Fi stores around Australia and various other music outlets. Pott Street is currently in the Studio putting the finishing touches on the new album, “High North”, which will be fully written, produced, engineered and mastered in-house by Pott Street. The album will be released independently in late 2009. Pott Street is a family, the people making the music are: Fliz (Timothy Johnson) [vocals, production, engineering, mixing], Gusto (Zachary Watt) [vocals, production, engineering], 'O' Zee (Adam Austin) [vocals, production] and Dizzle (Mandy Garling) [vocals].
