The Hot Club of Boulder plays Le Jazz Hot, music from the 1920s through the 1940s in the style of Django Reinhardt. The group is an acoustic quartet comprised of two guitars, clarinet, bass, with male and female vocals. We also use flute, bass clarinet, mandolin and Greek bouzouki in our performances. Our repertoire is a heady cocktail of Django compositions, modern gypsy jazz, and music of the big band era--spiced with Latin and klezmer tunes. The tempos are brisk and the melodies are memorable.
The Hot Club of Boulder grew out of a lively gypsy swing jam scene in the Denver and Boulder, Colorado area several years ago. Led by guitarist and singer Barron Beshoar, HCB has become one of the best known gypsy groups on the Colorado Front Range.
The Hot Club of Boulder is also the host group and producer of the Longmont Swing Festival and Gypsy Rendezvous, the largest gypsy swing event between the coasts. 2008 will be the third such festival.
HCB plays out locally once or twice each month. The group plays coffee houses, restaurants, swing dances, weddings, and community concerts.
HCB has produced three gypsy swing festivals in Longmont, and played Djangofest Colorado in Crested Butte in 2008.
In August of 2011 we played The Soiled Dove Underground, Denver's premier live music venue, with the international renowned Robin Nolan as our special guest.
