The Ramblin' Jacks consists of Mick Newman: Guitar/Keyboards and Lead Vocals and Jamie "Jim" Cook: Bass/Keyboards/Guitar and Backing Vocals.
We originally met during a stint in a punk band (The Layabouts) back in July 1981. When the band folded, we decided to change from punk to a sixties' power pop style.
Our first efforts were recorded on a Fostex X-250 portastudio. We decided to have a short break in 1989 as we were both feeling tired of the same old routine.
This short break lasted until January 2004, when we decided to try our hands at recording a song using Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro2. Our initial test proved to be successful and we've been recording ever since.
At the moment we are a "recording" duo but hope to expand the line-up and start gigging in the near future.
Our musical influences include: The Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones, The Stranglers and Sex Pistols.
Mick uses a Westone Thunder 1A Guitar.
Jamie uses a Squire Precision Bass, Squire Jazz Bass, Columbus EB-3 Bass, Westone Dynasty 1 Bass, Vintage Musicman Bass, AXL Precision Bass and a CMI SG- guitar.
Other equipment used - Yamaha PSR-275, Trace Elliot GP-11 Pre-amp, Behringer V-Amp2, Behringer Bass V-Amp Pro, Digitech S-1024 delay, Boss AC-2 & DS-1, Marshall VT-1, Colorsound Phaser and Prosound 8 Mini Mixer. All music recorded on to PC using Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro2 software.
