Seedy Player was conceived in 2000. It began when Buddha, musician and multimedia artist, began searching for a producer to develop a handful of off-kilter bass-lines into ethereal electronic dialogues. The search took 3 years and led him to Joe Roberts, who had been producing dark, epic Drum and Bass under the moniker "Octopus" for eight years and had the right musical outlook and ethics to make the sound work. Production began on the tracks and the two found something that was greater then the sum of its parts. This spurred more collaborative efforts until the point came where a vocalist was most definitely needed. After time spent auditioning and deliberating over vocalists, Seedy Player came across the breathtaking voice of Helen Panayiotou. Helen had years of experience as a singer/songwriter and was experimenting with electronic sounds and beats. Helen's voice compliments the intense, melancholic sound, perfectly; producing a seductive package. The following two and a half years were spent in Drone Studios, Manchester, creating an albums worth of songs that capture a vibe and atmosphere, unlike anything in the current market. The idea was to combine rigid electronic production with warm organic tones and live instruments. Influences were taken from Lamb, Radiohead, Bob Marley, Erol Alkan, Bjork, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Tori Amos, The Prodigy and many more. The following eight months were spent translating their studio sound into a live show that would surpass the intensity of the recordings. At this point, Seedy Player welcomed drummer, Geoff Skelhorn, into the band. His style added to the band’s live intensity. With an album’s worth of great songs under their belt, and a finely tuned live sound, Seedy Player began playing live shows. They incorporated interpretive dancers into the shows giving the band an exceptional element to the performances. Seedy Player will soon be including live visual projections into their events as well. Even after their initial gigs, the response to the shows was tremendous. Within their first six shows, Seedy Player had played across three cities, including Sheffield (where they supported Massive Attack's Sarah Jay -writer and singer on Massive Attack's "Dissolved Girl"). Seedy Player were also reviewed and lauded in a 2005 edition of Future Music Magazine. Seedy Player continues to expand on its ever-growing fan base and take their sound into new directions.
