Band/artist history
I, Orangery Smut (an anagram of Grant Seymour (my real name)), started making beats in 2004 after enrolling on a Music Technology course. The course taught me everything from producing to promoting and a whole lot more, which I cant be bothered to go into right now. Anyway, i was taught how to use Logic Pro 7 and that's where it all began. Long before the beats, I was born in Motherwell, Scotland and moved to South Shields, England on my 5th birthday. I've moved a lot since then, living several places in Shields, West Boldon, Boldon Colliery, Fellgate (all in South Tyneside, Tyne & Wear) and am now living in Hylton Castle, Sunderland (also in Tyne & Wear). After leaving Boldon School in 2004 I didn't really know what I wanted to do and almost ended up on an apprenticeship as a mechanic. Realising I didn't want to start work at 16 and do that for the rest of my life I wandered down to South Tyneside College to see if i could enroll on any courses. I took 3 A-levels (Music Technology, Media Studies, I.T) & re-sat my Maths GCSE. The Music Technology course at STC was rubbish so I dropped out after 1 lesson and later dropped out of my other A-levels as I had no real interest in them, but I continued the Maths GCSE & passed! The following year i went back to STC and enrolled on a BTEC ND E-Business course, which after a couple of weeks ...I dropped out. I began to see a pattern emerging here and had decided that college just wasn't for me..... ....Until the following year, whilst browsing the Internet to see what I could do with myself, I came across the BTEC ND Music Technology course at Gateshead College. It sounded interesting, and a lot better than the one at STC, so I applied, got accepted and two years later I've just wrote all this crap (though I've had this space for a while I just could never be bothered to write anything here!)....as for the course, I did NOT drop out and as a plus, i passed!
Have you performed in front of an audience?
have done bt dont do it often, its alright..
Your musical influences
I'm influenced by everything, life n all other everyday things that i see n hear etc... I gots to admit if I had never heard anything by Pay As You Go, Hearless Crew, Dizzee, Wiley etc then I never would have got into the production ting!More recently I've been influenced by a lot of people around me, like deep_cut & limz (check these out!...Big Up!) Aswell as Grime, Hip Hop is also a big influence, as is Big Beat and a whole loada other stuff... The Roots, Tinchy Stryder, Ice Cube, Klashnekoff, JME, Kano, Plan B, Gorillaz, Dilated Peoples, Miss Beatz, Swiss Beats, The Alchemist, DMX, Virus Syndicate, Wiley Kat, Dizzee Rascal, Roll Deep, D'explicit, Davinche, Jazzy Jeff, Roots Manuva, The Streets, Da Rockweilder, Redman, Method Man, Wu-Tang, Rakim, Jehst, Taskforce, Terra-Firma, Ludacris, Skinnyman, Jay Z, Nas, Lady SOV, No-Lay, Shystie, MF Doom, Crazy T, J2K, Sway, Ruff Squad, Heartless, PAYG, Sage Francis, ..........n loads more, in fact i shudda just sed music n everyone involved with it influences me, bt anyhoo there just the ones off the top of ma noggin....
