The St. Olaf College Chapel Choir is the largest choral ensemble on campus, specializing in the preparation and performance of oratorio, Passion, Mass, or other large work for presentation every spring with the St. Olaf College Orchestra. Past performances have included the Fauré REQUIEM, Rutter GLORIA, Bach PASSIONS, Mozart's GRAND MASS, Mendelssohn's ELIJAH, Brahms' GERMAN REQUIEM, and Britten's WAR REQUIEM. Additionally, the Chapel Choir leads a serivce/performance of Vespers each fall, often in collaboration with other choral or instrumental ensembles. The Chapel Choir, like the other departmental ensembles, also provides music for Sunday services and occasional Chapel services on the St. Olaf campus.
The Chapel Choir also appears in the annual St. Olaf College Christmas Festival and sings off-campus on special occasions. The 120-voice choir includes music majors and other students who participate as part of their liberal arts experience. Performing anthems and other liturgical works in many styles from various historical periods and traditions exposes them to a rich musical heritage within the context of the worship service.
