Hi I'm Charles Morais, Jr. I grew up in Long Island/Queens, NY, as a child I listened to nothing but Hip Hop and Rock. As you grow older you mature and learn to appreciate other style's of music. But I was a young tiger following in my father's foot steps in the Jazz era. When I turned 7 I began to explore the Recording Technology environment and studying sound engineering with software and analog gear (I Stepped my game up to Digital ;) lol). So for the next 4 years of my life I learn to work with artist and musicians recording and writing music. Working along side with my father we found ourselves running into bad business ego's and head games, so I took this time to learn more about music and work on my own projects. I took 6 months and tried to be a Rapper that didn't last long then I tried some piano and my father was kind of lets say Harsh and Rude with learning so I told him to kick rocks scram and beat it and when I was older I found a love for drums. I took the last few years of my life and studied music heavy and developed better production skills. In today's world its just about impossible to find young artist who would ever look to be a innovator so you find yourself getting bored working alone and its hard to build new ideas. So I found myself running the streets being as some now like to say a "Goon". I wasted about 3 years of my life Fighting and doing a lot of other crazy things, but everyone grows up at some point in there life. When I started getting called for more recording sessions and playing experiences I didn't have to be a "G" anymore lol and to all you little thugs out there there's no money in the life of being a "gansta". At this point in my life I'm 16 years old and I can honestly say there is no style of music I can't play or that I dislike and I've been staying busy with them all. I work outside of my own studio I write and produce my own music and have my own artist doing everything from, Jazz, Rock, Hip Hop, Latin, R&B, Fusion, Afro Cuban and much more to come. So just when you think I'm a corn ball or a clown ask about me because I'm sure I'm a whole lot more happier than you boys and girls. ;) www.richardkolp.com RK: Your tunes are in jazz rock arena of music. Could you explain why you decided to play jazz rock and not some other more popular style of music???CMJ: Well I'm sorry to say, if you look at todays new music it just sucks! When I heard fusion it was on a video of The Brecker Brothers. When I heard this style of music I said "this is what I want to play for a living!" Fusion to me is more than Jazz Rock its having the ability to be free and open as a musician and blend any style of music together and make music. It also gives you ability to write and play any style music you want without a problem, because there are so many styles that are used in this gender of music. It seems like with todays music there's no originality, creativity or even talent. There's no room for the musicians, everything is just programmed with computers. Half the producers and writers and even the artist themselves just dont know anything about music or where anything comes from. I find that there are just too many rappers and singers just doing the same thing that everyone else before them did. It seems that many are doing the same-thing for worst or better and just feel as if there's so much out there waiting for them but yet they are just a star in their own eyes doing what millions of other people are doing around the world (So how could there be room for all these artist, You Dig?). RK: Wow! How you stated that couldnt have been said better by myself or the jazz fusionists of the world. Programming has always driven me crazy. Drum loops, key loops, bass loops and it goes on and on. I always feel cheated and depressed when I hear this kind of music. To me its play it or forget it. Richard Knowles said real music always finds a way. I agree.
