Quianne
“She has an innocence and purity of sound that brings to mind what an angel might sound like, Confidence that allows her to admit wrongs, and move on, lyrics and melodies that penetrate your soul with an edge sharp enough to touch the fellas, honesty that is rare but necessary, humility that reminds us that we are all human, looks that could bring any man to his knees, and she even gives “Jlo” a run for her money if you know what I mean!”
-Glenn Ellis Of The Soul Searchers
Like so many before her, Quianne Perrin is a product of the musical training grounds that is the Black Church. Growing up Quianne’s father pastored a church in the Washington, DC metro area however, unlike most PK’s (pastors kids) Quianne wasn’t feeling the Sunday morning, hymn shouting, foot stomping, choirgirl image. Instead, Ms. Thang soaked in the soul from the sidelines. Opting rather to skip church and choir rehearsal, to protect her fly girl image, which stopped her from going the whole talent show route as most other singers. In the end Quianne’s rebellion paid off in the form of a unique point of view and enough material to fill spiral notebooks for days. Quianne’s lyrical voice is set apart from her musical peers because of her personal experiences that translate into a world that no one else is capable of sharing and that is the world of “Quianne”. This Sultry siren is deeply influenced by the old school sound including Aretha Franklin, The Whispers, The Delfonics, Frankie Beverly and Maze and of course Chuck Brown and the Go-Go sound of Washington, DC. In 1998 exactly a year after her mother passed from cancer Quianne picked up a pen and it was then that the journey began. In 2000, Quianne relocated to Los Angeles, CA enrolled in school at Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA and quickly forged her way into the L.A music scene. In the midst of putting a band together Quianne was introduced to an up and coming producer who was then signed to Atlantic Records. The two wrote a few songs together mixing her lyrics and his music and presented them to Mark Sparks who was then the head of Soul Life Records and responsible for the release of Sunshine Anderson’s first album “Your Woman”. “Quianne’s sound is very angelic, cool, and relaxed, but don’t get it twisted the girl can blow so her fiery side gives a balance to her music, it gives you chills, It’s like being a part of history in the making” says Sparks who signed her to his Soulwerkz label immediately and often refers to her as “The Package” it was a no brainer.
In less than a year after relocating to L.A the focused Hollywood newcomer was signed to Universal Records and busy working on her first album. During this time she was featured on the Roger Troutman Tribute Album remaking the cult classic “Computer Love” she wrote and recorded with, DMC of legendary Run DMC, Bone Thugz and Harmony, rapper Yukmouth, West coast rap group The Relativz, Timbaland protégé Shaunta, and Platinum Producer Mike City. Unfortunately Soulwerkz went bankrupt in 2002 prior to her releasing an album. This was a minor setback for the blossoming Songstress and soon enough her make it happen attitude kicked in and prompted her to release her album, on her imprint, “The Urban Music Department” and on her time. “I will always be grateful to Sparks for believing in me, I wrote and recorded an entire album, met some of the most talented musicians and producers in the world, who I can still call on today if I need advice or just an ear, and all this while learning the business first hand, it just wasn’t the right time.” says this self proclaimed student of life who is excited about the release of her highly anticipated debut “Just listen to the Words.” The instantly classic album takes you on a melodically beautiful, and lyrically honest ride. The nostalgic tracks are centered around hard drivin Hip-Hop beats. On the album Quianne touches on the ups and downs life deals on “Good days” or issues females deal with in this new age of independence and age old neglect, in “female Soldiers”, or loyalty and forgiveness in “Right There.” The album features tracks from one of Chocolate City’s hidden treasures “Mack, “ newcomer heatseaker “Coltrane”, and the Ultra Soulful Super Producer “Kanye West”. From Just Listening to the words and the voice, it is very apparent that Quianne definitely has “The Whole Package” and then some.
