Koshish - A Tribute to AID

This song was made in 2 hours flat with the lyrics -- dedicated to the efforts of Association of India's Development in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, this song was donated to them for their use!
A youthful, vibrant form of Indian Music. Something that COMPLETELY ORIGINAL, SOOTHING, MEANINGFUL and PURE!!!
Band/artist history
Fall'2000: Apt 171, Chadwick place, Starkville, Mississippi: Balli sings "Sawan Mein Lag Gayi Aag" in a jam session with me and that was it....! With as many as 7 people in the band, we set the stage on Fire with Mika’s “Sawan Mein Lag Gayi Aag ". Cut to.... October' 2004 Balli, Jason, Sachin, Jagdeesh, Deep and myself getting ready for a performance where we go on stage formally as, "The L U K K H H A S"!!!!! 4 years and a bunch of performances later, here we are today, with a band in place and proud to say that we are the ONLY Desi band in and around New Orleans. It wasn't that easy; association with different talented musicians taught us a lot and made us more and more versatile. Here is how it all went.... Timeline: Fall 1999: My first semester at MSU, had no clue where I was and why there are so many non-ghatis around!!!! Apt 107, Chadwick place, Starkville, Mississippi I borrow Sandeep Patel’s keyboard just to play with it. Me, Ramani and Chaitanya use the built-in rhythms and jam just for fun. We are so loud that the cops show up!!!! We decide to use that effort towards a performance, and we start something that nobody at India Student Association at MSU has ever seen. A live musical performance!!!! Believe it or not, with just me on the keyboard we actually make people DANCE!!!! Highlight of the show: Ramani singing Gori Naal Ishq Mitha with a tamil accent, Chaitanya’s Mehbooba with a telugu accent! It was just me on the keyboard and VV on the mixer! Diwali 1999: Crappiest performance ever! Almost all the songs were screwed up, but Chaitanya saved the day by doing Mehbooba at the last minute. Manoj Apte rocked with his quasi-band doing Colonial Cousins’ Indian Rain. It was again just me on the keyboard and VV on the mixer! January 2000: Jaideep, Mishtu, Bankush, Amit, Kantha, Ramani, Reggie, VV, Mantha buy me a keyboard as a birthday gift. Thanks guys, this keyboard has taught me a lot and I still use it!!!! September 2000: We (Pari and Balli) along with bunch of music freaks, set the stage on fire at the Mississippi State University's Indian Student's Association Fall get-together "Swagatam" with Mika's "Sawan Mein Lag Gayi Aag”!!!! Manoj: Tabla/Flute, Akshoy: Guitar, Jumbo: Drums, Prashant: Flute/Vocals, CPS: Guitar, Balli: Guitar/Vocals, Pari: Keyboard/Vocals/Drums....IT WAS WILD....and I must say, the most extravagant performance TILL DATE! Highlight of the function being, me singing the historical songs Mehbooba and Dum Maro Dum. Why historical? Keep reading you will know why! November 2000: We perform for the same crowd again for Diwali Nite, with the Boss' numbers like “Humma Humma” and “Chaiyya Chaiyya”!!!! Though the mixer sucked big-time, it was not all that bad! We learn our lessons and move on! We were: Manoj, Akshoy, Jumbo, VV, CPS, Balli and Pari. April 2001: An impressive performance follows at “Surabhi”, the spring function at MSU, organized by the India Student's Association which, among others, included “Rang Barse”, “Sakhiye (myself singing in Tamil)” and “Dil Se”. Most well organized effort of ours till now. And let me add, Manoj Apte, simply rocks!!!! We were: Manoj, Jumbo, CPS, Akshoy, VV, Balli and Pari. September 2001: I move to Slidell, Louisiana and Balli continues what we had started a year back with some more fresh musicians and gives a more youthful feeling to the band with his selection of songs. Highlight - Dil Chahta Hai....doesn't get better than this....!!!! This event introduced us to a true LIVE singing sensation in the making, Balli! We were: Balli, Pari, Surya, Jumbo. Spring 2002: Jason joins us! A Hardcore fan of the BOSS’s “Vande Mataram”, which he can play in his sleep too!!!! He performs “Vande Mataram” all by himself with Prashant on the vocals. Ammmmmaaaaazing!!!! Balli overcomes all the “Lajja” for us and sings a female number! We were: Jumbo, Jason, Balli and Pari. Then comes a LOOOOONG gap of almost a year when we were just 3 of us, waiting and waiting and waiting. for don’t know what! Spring 2003: The unstoppable Balli does his thing again with incredible effort doing Tanha dil and Chhodna re. I was out due to my thesis/work/time mismanagement .etc etc. We were: Jumbo, Sachin, Jagdeesh, Balli and Pari (injured!!!!) Fall 2003: The first time I perform with the dynamic duo, Sachin and Jagdeesh. Sachin, hardcore (I mean as hard as it gets!!!!) RD fan and Jags my fellow worshipper of the BOSS. Enters Deep, a terrific rhythm guitarist and cool customer! We impress the crowd with Dum maaro dum and Mehebooba. We were: Sachin, Jagdeesh, Deep, Balli and Pari. Fall 2003: University of New Orleans Chakra India Nite. The first performance of ours outside of MSU. Thanks to Radhika for enrolling in UNO and thanks to Rajesh for being forthcoming. Balli and deep show up at 9.00pm on Friday, We practice for 6 hours (literally) and come up with 8-10 songs to perform on the very next day. Out of nowhere, enters John, an extraordinary guitar player who leaves us all with a HUGE inferiority complex. We rock at UNO with John’s solo and Balli’s mind blowing enthusiasm. We were: Deep, John, Balli and Pari. Summer' 2003: New Orleans Marathi Mandal function, Gajra. Quite a low profile performance, still it showed class. Highlight being Kal Ho Na Ho and our trump cards....Dum Maro Dum and Mehbooba. We actually got some older people to dance..quite an achievement huh!!!! We were: Sachin, Jags, Jason, Balli and Pari. Fall 2004: Tupelo, MS Cultural Alliance: For the first time we all were playing together. Jason: Bass, Sachin: Keyboard/Vocals. Jags: Drums, Deep: Guitar, Bhave: Tabla/Drum pads Balli: Vocals/Lead Guitar and Pari: Keyboard/Vocals/Drums. Unexpectedly smaller crowd (smallest we have ever performed for). Needless to say we were good, but the less audience kind of made it not so worth it!!!! We were: Sachin, Jags, Bhave, Deep, Jason, Balli and Pari. Fall 2004: Darpan, MSU Welcome party Back to where we started from, after quite a while, and again we all rocked the house with numbers like Ishq, Dil Dooba, Boss’ Endrendrum, and S-E-L’s Lakshya. This was a major confidence boost as far as proving our character to ourselves goes. We were: Sachin, Jags, Bhave, Deep, Balli and Pari. And finally back to present, we are formally launching ourselves as “The L U K K H H A S”!!!! Its been a fantastic journey so far and we expect some more fun to come. Thanks for visiting the website of, the ONLY DESI band in and around New Orleans, ladies and gentlemen, “the LUKKHHAS”!!!! -Pari. October 19, 2004
